Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World

I grew up playing and loving Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. It was one of the most original and best looking games on the Super Nintendo and still holds up today. That series spawned several other games that I never played (and never really felt the need to play). However, after getting into the Nintendo 3DS and its fabulous library of titles, I decided to try out Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World.

My initial time with the game was fun; almost whimsical. The world was full of little moments that made me smile and remember why I loved the original Yoshi's Island so much. While this game didn't have the crayon drawn aesthetic of the original and had long ago abandoned the 2D pixel art of the Super Nintendo, it was still, at its core, absolutely in the same vein as Yoshi's Island.

Unfortunately, my enjoyment with the game didn't last. Its mechanics eventually became dull and its gameplay loop full of finding and collecting flowers, hearts, coins, and other items grew stale and tedious. It just didn't have anything to compel me to complete the game and I got bored. I still think the game is fun and worth playing, just don't expect it to be the greatest or most original platformer you've ever played.
